Taylor Swift is adding four new songs to The Life of a Showgirl

Taylor Swift isn't done with The Life of a Showgirl yet.

She's putting out The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore this Friday, September 25. It's the same album with four brand new songs added at the end, so it goes from 12 tracks to 16.

The new songs

Patient Zero is the lead single.
Cleveland! is named after where her husband, Travis Kelce, grew up.

She wrote them in Sweden with Max Martin and Shellback, the same two producers she made the album with. They went there to celebrate how well the album did and ended up in a studio. “We did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs,” she said.

How she teased it

Swifties saw this coming. Before announcing Patient Zero on Tuesday, she swapped the letter O for zeros in her Instagram bio. She also dropped a weird line in a Law & Order: SVU sketch at the Emmys that fans think was a hint.

Why this album is a big deal

The Life of a Showgirl came out last October and broke records right away. It sold over 4 million units in its first week in the US, which is the biggest album debut ever. All 12 songs landed in the top 12 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time.

So giving it an encore makes sense.

Then the VMAs on Sunday

Two days after the new songs come out, Swift gets honored at the MTV VMAs. She's the first person to get the new Artist Director Honors, which is for artists who do big things behind the camera on their music videos. She already has more VMAs than any other artist.

Snoop Dogg is hosting for the first time. The show is Sunday, September 27, on CBS and MTV, and you can stream it on Paramount+.

What to watch for: how high the new songs chart next week. The original album took over the whole top 12. Doing that again with four songs would be another record.
