Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing at the club's training ground. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

The 40-year-old collapsed at the end of the training session at Bayern's Säbener Straße base. A rescue helicopter landed at the training ground before he was taken to a Munich hospital by ambulance. German outlet Bild first reported the incident.

Sky Sports Germany reported that Kompany was in a stable condition. Bayern had not issued a statement as of Friday afternoon.

Kompany had been battling a viral infection for about a week. Earlier this week assistant manager Aaron Danks said the virus “has affected his legs at times and he's felt some pain.” Bild reported that Kompany had struggled to climb stairs, with the infection aggravating old scar tissue.

The Belgian still led Bayern from the touchline for Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal. Danks stood in for him at the pre-match news conference. After the match Kompany admitted he had ignored his body's warning signs. “I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn't listen to my body,” he said. “Then, at some point, my body said: 'Now stop!'”

Kompany, the former Manchester City captain who won four Premier League titles as a player, has managed Bayern since the summer of 2024. Bayern host SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
