Disney is giving Artemis Fowl another shot at the screen. The company has greenlit an animated TV series based on Eoin Colfer’s books, to air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney+.

Colfer announced the series Sunday at New York Comic Con, during a panel marking the 25th anniversary of the first book. He will serve as an executive producer.

The action-adventure series follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he uncovers a hidden civilization of technologically advanced fairies. He plans to capture one and steal its magic to heal his dying mother and save his family.

Colfer’s fellow executive producers are Ben Juwono, whose credits include Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series, and Colleen Evanson, who worked on DuckTales and Monsters at Work.

“I am proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the ‘Artemis Fowl’ animation on screen,” Colfer said in a statement. “Everyone is so talented and so positive that I feel certain the fairy world is in excellent hands.”

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said the series gives Disney a chance to introduce Artemis’s world to a new generation while honoring longtime fans. The books have sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and been translated into 48 languages.

This is Disney’s second attempt at the franchise. A live-action Artemis Fowl film directed by Kenneth Branagh landed on Disney+ in 2020. Fans and critics panned it, and Disney removed it from the streaming service in 2023.

No voice cast or premiere date has been announced.
