Spotify went down for thousands on Tuesday morning

Spotify went down on Tuesday morning. Thousands of listeners across the United States reported problems starting around 9:30 a.m. ET.

Downdetector logged more than 17,000 reports by 10:12 a.m., according to Reuters. The reports peaked at more than 19,000 before falling back to about 1,000.

Search stopped working. Users saw “Something went wrong” errors and could not start new songs. Some could not log in at all.

Not everyone was hit. Music that was already downloaded kept playing for many users. The trouble looked different from one account to the next.

Spotify acknowledged the problems on X. “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!” its status account posted. The company did not say what caused the outage.

Claude stumbled too

Spotify was not the only service having a bad morning. Anthropic’s Claude also ran into trouble on Tuesday, with reports topping 10,000 around 10:25 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector.

Anthropic said elevated error rates were affecting Claude services and that the problems were mitigated. The two outages appeared unrelated.

Downdetector counts user-submitted reports, not affected accounts. The real number of affected users could be higher or lower.

By late morning, Spotify was working again for most users, USA Today reported. The outage ended as quietly as it started.
