Boyz II Men are going country. The R&B trio announced on Monday that it has signed with Warner Records Nashville, which will release the group’s first country album in 2027.

No title or exact release date has been announced yet. The group will work with Nashville songwriters on the record.

“We love the genre so much, and at this point in our career we felt like it was the perfect time to dip our toes,” Shawn Stockman told The Tennessean. “We’ve always been enamored with the storytelling component of country music and how they actually put those stories to melody.”

“We feel that country music and its community is the final frontier when it comes to integrity, musicality, real songwriters, real singing, real instrumentation,” Stockman added.

Wanya Morris said the move feels natural. “We’ve reached our tentacles out over many years and dabbled in other types of music, but R&B is the root of who we are,” he told The Tennessean. “And I think that’s why it’s so easy for us to fall in love with country music because the melodies are similar. The meanings are similar. The feelings are similar. So, it’s almost like we feel at home doing it.”

A country turn, decades in the making

The trio — Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman — formed in Philadelphia in 1985. Their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony, arrived in 1991. They have sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.

Their hits include “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” “On Bended Knee,” “One Sweet Day,” and “Motownphilly.” They have won four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, and three Billboard Music Awards, and they have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Country is not entirely new ground for them. They made their Grand Ole Opry debut in 2018 and performed with Cody Johnson at this year’s Stagecoach festival. They also joined Lady A on “I Love The One,” which appears on the compilation Songs Inspired by The Chosen: Seasons 1–5, out Friday.

“Boyz II Men’s global influence is decades in the making,” said Cris Lacy, chair and president of Warner Records Nashville. “Every genre and culture has benefited from their original music, and their impact on artists in the current country landscape, while perhaps surprising to some, is quite profound.”

Lacy said learning that the group grew up listening to artists like Randy Travis was part of what convinced the label to make the deal. “History repeats itself, and it’s the perfect time for Boyz II Men and those they inspired to make some magic together,” she said.

First studio album since 2017

The country album will be the group’s first studio album since 2017’s Under the Streetlight, a set of covers of R&B standards from the 1950s and 1960s. In 2025, they became the first group to win Fox’s The Masked Singer.

The group has also stayed busy on stage. This year alone, it joined New Edition and Toni Braxton on the New Edition Way Tour.

For now, the country record is a plan, not a finished album. What is set is the label, the genre, and the year. The songs themselves are still to come.
