DHS Raids Rep. Ilhan Omar's D.C. Home in Immigration Fraud Probe

Homeland Security Investigations executed a court-authorized search early Monday as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation into the Minnesota congresswoman's immigration paperwork.

Federal agents searched the Washington-area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning. The agents, with Homeland Security Investigations, executed a court-authorized search warrant.

“Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” a Justice Department spokesperson said in a statement. “This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.”

Fox News Digital first reported the search, citing a source familiar with the matter. The Associated Press confirmed it with people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

Agents arrived at the home around 6 a.m., according to Fox News. Multiple agents wearing Homeland Security Investigations jackets were seen outside the residence in the early morning hours.

Two sources close to the investigation told Fox News Digital the probe centers on Omar’s immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child. The department has not said what evidence investigators were seeking. No charges have been announced.

A representative for Omar did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the AP reported.

The search marks a sharp escalation in an investigation that became public last month. White House border czar Tom Homan said in mid-September that Omar was under an ongoing “criminal” investigation by Homeland Security Investigations. He declined to discuss specifics.

Omar, 44, represents Minnesota’s 5th District, which includes Minneapolis. First elected to the House in 2018, she is one of the most prominent progressive Democrats in Congress and a member of the group of lawmakers known as “The Squad.”

Omar has long been a frequent target of President Donald Trump’s criticism. In recent weeks, Trump has singled out her and Minnesota’s Somali community in speeches, according to Reuters.

Omar has long faced allegations from critics about her immigration history, including claims that she married her brother to help him secure immigration benefits. The claims have circulated for years.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
