At a Kentucky rally, the president tied a $100 million federal investment to a GOP win. A Democratic congressman called the promise a lie.

President Donald Trump promised a Kentucky drug plant a $100 million federal investment on Saturday. He tied it to a Republican victory.

“If the Republicans win, the Department of War will be investing $100 million in the pharmaceutical company Antheia to revitalize a gigantic drug manufacturing facility in Winchester, Kentucky,” Trump said at a midterm rally in Highland Heights.

He said Democrats would not get it done. “They wouldn’t be able to do it, they wouldn’t even know what you’re talking about, they have no idea.”

Trump spoke at Truist Arena on the Northern Kentucky University campus. The rally was one stop on his midterm blitz for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 election.

Rep. Andy Barr and Ed Gallrein joined Trump on stage. Barr, a U.S. representative, is the Republican nominee for Kentucky’s Senate seat. Gallrein is the nominee in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District.

Trump also talked up a $1 billion investment from GE Appliances and the IUE-CWA union that he said would make Louisville’s Appliance Park the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the United States.

He repeated a promise to give every adult citizen a $5,000 dividend if Republicans win the House and Senate. He said the economy could pay for it. He did not say how.

The Defense Department and Barr’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the Louisville Courier Journal reported.

Democrats pushed back. Rep. Morgan McGarvey of Louisville called the $100 million promise a “lie” at a No Kings rally held the same day.

The No Kings demonstrations drew more than 3,000 actions nationwide Saturday, focused on early voting and turnout ahead of November 3, according to USA Today.
