U2 are going back to stadiums. The band announced its first world tour in eight years on Thursday, with Beck opening the first dates.

The run is billed as “Carnaval De Luz Presents: The Greatest Show on Earth.” It opens at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros on February 23 and 26, 2027, then moves to São Paulo’s Estádio MorumBIS on March 10 and 12 and Buenos Aires’ Estadio River Plate on March 23 and 25. Those three cities are the only Latin American stops on next year’s itinerary. Dates for Europe and North America are set to be announced in the coming weeks, and the band says an Irish homecoming is being planned.

“‘The Greatest Show on Earth’? Now that’s a throwdown. It’s a dare, to ourselves as much as anyone, to try and have the best night of anybody’s life,” Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. said in a joint statement.

The tour will be U2’s first stadium run since the Joshua Tree Tour ended in Mumbai on December 15, 2019. Since then the band has played a 40-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023 and 2024.

It will also be Mullen’s return to the road on drums. He missed the Sphere residency while dealing with health issues.

The tour supports the band’s 16th studio album, Carnaval De Luz, due November 13 on Interscope. It is U2’s first collection of new songs in nine years.

Alongside the announcement, the band released the album’s third single, also titled “The Greatest Show on Earth.” U2 wrote it with Brian Eno, a longtime collaborator. The video was directed by Anton Corbijn, who has worked with the band for decades.

Presale tickets go on sale to U2.com subscribers on Monday, October 19, at 10 a.m. local time. General sale follows through Ticketmaster on October 22, with Mexico City on sale October 23.

Last month the band celebrated 50 years together, playing a surprise set at their old school, Mount Temple in Dublin, and popping up on Grafton Street.
