Disney has renewed Coven Academy for a second season.

The company revealed the pickup on Monday, three weeks after the teen witch drama premiered. The first season debuted October 1 on Freeform, with the full run arriving the next day on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform On Demand.

The numbers gave Disney an easy case. The first season has drawn 20.3 million global hours on Disney+ and Hulu in its first three weeks. The opening chapter picked up another 30 million views after Disney posted it on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

Over premiere weekend, it was the No. 1 streaming series among viewers ages 12 to 17, and a top-five streaming series among all viewers. Much of that audience watched together: half of viewers ages 12 to 17, and nearly two-thirds of viewers ages 6 to 11, watched alongside an adult, according to Nielsen data cited by Deadline.

The series is set at Crescent Veil, an elite magic boarding school in New Orleans. Three teenage witches and their warlock classmates study there, caught between old supernatural wars and new romances, while trying to protect their city. The official logline puts it plainly: power is currency, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability.

Malina Pauli Weissman plays Briar, a New Yorker who learns she is a witch. Malachi Barton plays Jake, Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, Ora Duplass plays Tegan and Louis Thresher plays Ollie, a newly turned vampire. Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the head of the school. Devon Sawa guest stars as Mr. Cole, a warlock professor.

Tim Federle created the series and executive produces it with Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row and Bronwyn North-Reist. Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions makes the show with Disney Kids & Family. Federle told TVLine that Season 2 will likely see Briar confront Miss Graves with questions about why she was given away and the details of her birth.

The first season was built for short attention spans. It runs 21 chapters, each between 10 and 22 minutes long on Disney+ and Hulu. On Freeform it aired as 10 longer episodes as part of the channel’s 31 Nights of Halloween block.

Disney has not announced a premiere date, a cast list or an episode count for Season 2. The first season is streaming now on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform On Demand.
