FX has renewed American Horror Story for a 14th season.

The pickup, reported by Deadline, was announced on October 20. It comes nine days before the Season 13 finale, which airs on October 29.

It is the first new renewal for the series since 2020. That year FX ordered three more seasons at once, covering seasons 11, 12 and 13. Since then, there had been talk that Season 13 might be the last.

Season 13 gave FX a reason to keep going. Its first three episodes drew about 4 million views in their first four days on Hulu and Disney+ around the world, or 476 million minutes watched. FX said it was the biggest streaming premiere in the show’s history, and the biggest launch for a Ryan Murphy series on Hulu and Disney+. The season also reached Nielsen’s streaming top 10 in its first two weeks.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the anthology premiered in 2011. Each season tells a separate horror story, with many of the same actors returning in new roles. It is FX’s longest-running hourlong series. It has more than 100 Emmy nominations and 17 wins.

Season 13 leaned on that history. Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts and Gabourey Sidibe all returned, playing characters from earlier seasons alongside new ones. Murphy has described the season as a sequel to the Coven and Apocalypse chapters.

What Season 14 will be about is not yet public. FX has not announced a theme, a cast, an episode count or a premiere date. The new season would push the series past 150 episodes.

Murphy has also talked about taking the anthology outside the United States. For now, the one thing that is settled is that the show will not end with Season 13.
